Alex Essoe and Daniel Zovatto join Screen Gems’ upcoming supernatural horror thriller, The Pope’s Exorcist.
Midnighters actress Alex Essoe and Don’t Breathe actor Daniel Zavatto joins in ‘The Pope’s Exorcist’ For Screen Gems. Apparently the supernatural horror thriller was announced late last month with Russell Crowe in the lead role. Julius Avery, who is best known for 2018’s Overlord will direct the film for Screen Gems’s upcoming flick. Doug Belgrad is producing the project for 2.0 Entertainment with Michael Patrick Kaczmarek of Jesus & Mary. Evan Spiliotopoulos wrote the screenplay based on original draft of Chester Hastings and R. Dean McCreary. Worldwide Katz’ Jeff Katz and Loyla Productions President Eddie Siebert are overseeing the project with Scott Strauss, Michael Bitar and Giselle Johnson for Screen Gems.
Russell Crowe is playing Father Gabriele Amorth in ‘The Pope’s Exorcist’, a legendary Italian priest who performed over 100,000 exorcisms for the Vatican.Screen Gems’ The Pope’s Exorcist will be inspired by the life of Father Amorth. During his lifetime, Father Amorth pulling out devil from people around the world. Father Gabriele Amorth died in 2016. Screen Gems acquired the rights to the film, as well as the bestselling memoirs An Exorcist Tells His Story and An Exorcist: More Stories, by Father Gabriele Amorth.
It is not yet known what role Alex Essoe & Daniel Zovatto will play in the film.
Apart from Midnighters, Canadian actress Alex Essoe is also known for Warner Bros.’ The Shining sequel, Doctor Sleep. She previously seen in Netflix’s supernatural horror mini-series, Midnight Mass. She will next seen in Indie thriller, Trim Season.
Daniel Zovatto is also known for David Robert Mitchell’s It Follows and Penny Dreadful: City of Angels series. Zovatto has appeared in the recently released HBO Max post-apocalyptic miniseries Station Eleven as Tyler Leander. In addition, the actor has also worked in award-winning director Greta Gerwig’s comedy drama, Lady Bird.
