Netflix’s ‘Blonde’ actress Ana de Armas is upset about receiving an NC-17 rating for the film.
One of the most talked-about projects of Netflix’s 2022 biographical drama, Blonde has once become a topic of discussion. Ana de Armas is portraying late Hollywood legendary actress Marilyn Monroe in the film. However, before this, there was a lot of ruckus about the casting of Armas in Blonde. In this context, Brad Pitt Supports Ana de Armas as Marilyn Monroe in Blonde with among others celebrities.
But this time the lead actress of Blonde has objected to the ratings received by the film. Ana de Armas’ Blonde has got NC-17 rating from the Motion Picture Association, which is not going well with the actress.
Talking about the NC-17 rating the film got, Ana de Armas says that there have been many films and TV shows in the past which have shown a lot of sexual content. According to the actress, the scenes filmed in Blonde were demanding for the story.
Actress Ana de Armas during an interview with the French magazine L’Officiel says that, “I didn’t understand why that happened. I can tell you a number of shows or movies that are way more explicit with a lot more sexual content than Blonde. But to tell this story it is important to show all these moments in Marilyn’s life that made her end up the way that she did. It needed to be explained. Everyone [in the cast] knew we had to go to uncomfortable places. I wasn’t the only one.”
Prior to Ana de Armas, the film’s director Andrew Dominic was not surprised by the NC-17 rating Blonde received. Director knew very well what he was serving in Blonde. Motion Picture Association rating didn’t matter to him, all that mattered was to accurately tell Monroe’s story.
In this context, Dominic said in an interview with Screen Daily that, “It’s a demanding movie. If the audience doesn’t like it, that’s the f***ing audience’s problem. It’s not running for public office. It’s an NC-17 movie about Marilyn Monroe, it’s kind of what you want, right? I want to go and see the NC-17 version of the Marilyn Monroe story.”
It’s also oddly ironic that Netflix’s Blondes is the only film of 2022 to be given an NC-17 rating for its graphic sexual content and will be the first of its kind to be released via the streaming platform.
