Andrew Kosove and Broderick Johnson are also serving as executive producer with Blade Runner 2049′ writer Michael Green. Ridley Scott is also serving as executive producer through his Scott Free Productions banner.

Limited sci-fi series details currently under wraps, but the title indicates that the upcoming project will be set fifty years after the events of Blade Runner 2049 starring Ryan Gosling. Currently no star name has been revealed for the series. The series will have 10 episodes that will fully explore the Blade Runner universe.

The first film based on Philip K. Dick’s novel Blade Runner, directed by Ridley Scott was released in 1982 from Warner Bros. Original sci-fi flick starred Harrison Ford, Rutger Hauer, Sean Young and Edward James Olmos in the lead roles. The film did a business of around $42 million at the box office. Original flick is still considered the best sci-fi film of all time.

Then exactly 35 years later, Warner Bros came out with the sequel Blade Runner 2049, directed by Denis Villeneuve with Ryan Gosling, Harrison Ford, Jared Leto, Ana de Armas and Dave Bautista. Although the film did not do well at the box office despite being made on a hefty budget, but critics highly praised the sci-fi feature. Film received nominations in five categories at the 90th edition of the Academy Awards. The film did a worldwide business of $259 million while its budget was $150 million.

The arrival of the Blade Runner 2099 series on Amazon confirms that the streaming platform has expanded its reach in recent years. Clearly, Prime Video currently has a slew of big mega-projects, including the most expensive series ever, The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power. Also, the streamer platform also has series like ‘The Boys’ which has engaged users from all over the world. Surely, sci-fi like Blade Runner 2099 will attract more users. It is clear that the audience has not yet understood this universe properly, which is clear that both the films have performed average at the box office. In such a situation, there cannot be a better option than TV to reach your point of view to the audience.
