Works on Warner Bros and DC’s upcoming superhero feature Blue Beetle is now in full swing. Blue Beetle is DC’s first latino superhero film starring Xolo Maridueña, the star of Netflix’s hit martial arts series, Cobra Kai . DC’s upcoming teen superhero feature is directed by Angel Manuel Soto, who is best known for 2020′ HBO Max‘ ‘Charm City Kings‘. Gareth Dunnet-Alcocer has wrote the screenplay. John Rickard is producing the film for Warner Bros and DC.
Now that the production of the film is underway, some pictures of actor Xolo Maridueña in full costume have been leaked from the sets. Xolo Maridueña is playing Jaime Reyes in film. Brazilian actress, Bruna Marquezine will play Penny, the girlfriend of Jaime Reyes. Belissa Escobedo, on the other hand, will play Milagros Reyes, the younger sister of Xolo Maridueña’s Jaime in the film. Dead Man Walking actress Susan Sarandon will star as villain Victoria Kord in DC’s Blue Beetle. Jorge Lopez plays Xolo Maridueña’s Jaime Reyes’ Uncle Rudy.
DC’s Blue Beetle Origin
Blue Beetle first featured in DC Comics Books in Mystery Men Comics #1 in August 1939, which was created by Charles Nicholas. But, Jaime Reyes’ Blue Beetle was first featured in 2006’s Infinite Crisis #3, on which DC’s upcoming film is based. Jaime Reyes’ Blue Beetle was created by Keith Giffen, John Rogers and Cully Hamner.
Before attaining superhero power, Jaime Reyes’ teenager belonged to a working class EI Paso. In this context that Jaime, along with two of his friends Paco and Brenda, later discovered the blue beetle scarab, half buried in an unused lot on the way home from school. An anxious Jaime decided to take it home. When night time came, the Blue Beetle scarab came alive and grafted itself to the base of Jaime Reyes’ spine. Blue Beetle provided Jaime with a suit of superhuman armor, with which he could build weapons, wings, and shields, as well as increasing speed and strength.

Warner Bros and DC’s Blue Beetle is schedule to release in theatres on August 18, 2023.
