HBO’s House of the Dragon‘s latest episode opens with the famous BGM from the familiar, Game of Thrones. However, the episode starts off with a bang when the living human beings are brutally handed over somewhere on the beach to millions of crabs that are eating their flesh. Second episode initially teases the extreme violence, but it later becomes devoted to the politics.

Prequel second episode highlights events six months after the death of the newly born son and wife, Queen Aemma of Viserys Targaryen, the ruler of the Iron Throne. Following the death of her mother, Princess Rhaenyra Targaryen, who was chosen to be the heir to the Iron Throne at the end of the premiere episode, sets out to prove herself. Also the desire for Iron Thorne is seen by Lord Corlys Velaryon proposing marriage to King Viserys for his 12-year-old daughter, Laena, it sounds so childish. Lord Corlys Velaryon also celebrates King Viserys by saying that the Empire will never accept a woman ( Rhaenyra ) as ruler and heir to the Iron Throne.

Rhaenyra proves her worth by taking a red dragon egg from the rebel Uncle Daemon, albeit without bloodshed. Of course, Rhaenyra is also annoyed by the upcoming father Viserys’ second marriage.

King Viserys also consults with his council regarding marriage with Laena. Although Viserys, being a king, could not take this decision himself, because with it the empire would also have to be thought of.

There is no doubt that Otto Hightower is the king’s greatest well-wisher, even if he sends his daughter Alicent closer to the king against her will. His loyalty to the Iron Throne was seen by the audience in the very first episode when he voted against Daemon, a Prince with no limits, in the council over the election of the heir.

At the end of the episode, everyone is surprised by King Viserys choosing Alicent Hightower, his daughter Rhaenyra’s best friend, as his wife instead of Laena. Rhaenyra looks very angry with her father’s decision. Also, Lord Corlys Velaryon and Daemon are seen standing together in opposition to the king.

Who Is Crab Feeder?

The latest episode also reveals the prequel’s first villain, Craghas Drahar aka “Crabfeeder”, when a seaside carnage takes place. Millions of crabs are eating the flesh of living people. Crabfeeder is waging war against the Navy of Westeros. In this context Lord Corlys Velaryon also complains to King Viserys in the council. The first glimpse of Crabfeeder is horrifying.

In George R.R. Martin’s book, Fire & Blood, Craghas Drahar aka Crab Feeder is an admiral for the “Triarchy”, a coalition of Free cities that had taken control of Stepstones several years before the coronation of Viserys. From then until today, the crown bears the Triarchy’s control of the region, paying them taxes for using the region’s shipping lanes. In Martin’s book, tensions build up when Craghas Drahar raises the price of Toll, provoking Lord Corlys Velaryon to take military action, a pattern seen in the most recently released episodes.

The latest episode of HBO’s House of the Dragon focuses more on strategy than violence. The characters of the show have been developed better. It would not be wrong to say that this is the calm before the coming storm. Crab Feeder has been the biggest blast of the second episode and it will be interesting to see what color it turns out to be.

Obviously the success that the show has achieved based on the premiere of the first episode is a sight to behold. That’s why ‘House Of The Dragon’ Renewed For Season 2 At HBO. Matt Smith as Daemon Targaryen has been a bit quiet since the first episode, albeit with little time. Emma D’Arcy has developed herself as a Princess Rhaenyra Targaryen.
