Jonás Cuarón hired to direct Bad Bunny in ‘El Muerto‘.
After, Sony Confirmed ‘El Muerto’ With Bad Bunny In Title Role At CinemaCon, now film has found its director. Maxican film director Jonás Cuarón, who is best known for 2015’s thriller drama Desierto has been roped in to direct Sony’s Marvel pic, El Muerto. Gareth Dunnet-Alcocer has written the screenplay for the film. He has previously written screenplays for Warner Bros and DC’s upcoming Blue Beetle.
Rapper Bad Bunny, whose full name is Benito Antonio Martinez Ocasio becomes the first Latino actor, who will play the title role in a film based on a Marvel Comics book character.
According to Marvel Comics Books, El Muerto is also known as Juan Carlos Estrada Sanchez. Juan-Carlos was trained by his father to be the next in a long line of El Muertos, masked wrestlers who wore mysterious masks that gave them power that is passed down throughout his family. While, he initially wants to avoid this path of life, his father’s death leaves Sanchez on his way to becoming El Muerto, which includes a brief wrestling match with Spider-Man in Comic Books. However, character has only appeared in two Marvel comics so far.
At film’s announcement at CinemaCon Las Vegas, Sony has also clarified that, “Bad Bunny will portray an antihero on the verge of inheriting his father’s power.“
Bad Bunny’s El Muerto will be a spin-off of Tom Holland’s Spider-Man Universe. Tom Hardy’s Venom and Jared Leto’s Morbius are also part of this universe. Also Sony’s upcoming Aaron Taylor-johnson’s ‘Kraven The Hunter’and Dakota Johnson’s Madame Web also fall in this universe.
Bad Bunny recently made his Hollywood debut with ‘Bullet Train’, directed by David Leitch. Brad Pitt, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Zoey King, Andrew Koji, Brian Tyree Henry, Zazie Beetz, and Sandra Bullock are stars opposite him in the film.
El Muerto Release Date
Sony has scheduled the release date of El Muerto for January 14, 2024.
