If all goes well, Oscar-winning actor Leonardo DiCaprio could play controversial cult leader as in ‘Jim Jones’ for MGM, with talks in the final stages for the role.
Leonardo is one actor who doesn’t hesitate to play realistic characters on the big screen. His past few releases prove this point , such as J. Edgar , The Aviator , Catch Me if You Can, Once Upon A Time In Hollywood, and The Wolf of Wall Street . These were all films in which Leonardo played characters related to ground reality. In J. Edgar , where the actor took on the big screen as American law enforcement administrator J. Edgar Hoover , he played the main character in Howard Hughes ‘s biography in The Aviator . It was in this context that he appeared as a criminal counterfeiter as Frank Adagnale Jr. in Catch Me if You Can , and as a corrupt stockbroker as Jordan Belfort in The Wolf of Wall Street.
Leonardo could play the role of real-life inspired controversial cult leader Jim Jones in this context. Rumors are even hot that Leonardo will also produce a Jim Jones movie for MGM under his Appian Way Productions with Jennifer Davisson. Jim Jones’ script for MGM will be written by Scott Rosenberg, who previously scripted the Dwayne Johnson starrer Jumanji franchise and ‘Venom’. Scott Rosenberg will also serve as executive producer.

The story of MGM’s upcoming biographical drama feature will center on leader Jim Jones, best known as the religious leader of Peoples Temple. The film will throw light on the incident that made Jim Jones responsible for one of the largest mass deaths in history. He planned a mass suicide, which resulted in the loss of 909 lives. This incident took place in Jonestown, Guyana in November 1978. However, he was praised by his followers for his charisma and alleged faith healing abilities. Also ridiculed for allegedly abusing some followers.
