Yann Demange will direct Marvel’s Blade and Michael Starrbury steps in as script writer for Vampire movie.
Marvel lost the director of the Mahershala Ali starrer Blade reboot last September, right before filming was set to begin. But now the search for the director of the studio is over. Now Marvel’s Blade Reboot will be directed by French filmmaker, Yann Demange, best known for the 2018 crime drama, White Boy Rick. Also, studio has confirmed a script-writer for the project, with Michael Starrbury writing the story for the Mahershala Ali-led vampire flick.
Apparently Director Bassam Tariq was supposed to direct the film earlier but due to some unknown reasons he left the project just before the production. Also Mahershala Ali, the contracted actor in the title role in the upcoming flick, expressed his displeasure with the script. So Marvel doesn’t want to leave any stone unturned in its upcoming film which results in studio turned to a new screen-writer. Previous draft was written by Stacy Osei-Kuffour of HBO’s Watchmen series.
In addition to Mahershala Ali, the film will also star Delroy Lindo and Aaron Pierre, though it is not yet known what roles they will play. Kevin Feige will produce the pic, which is expected to begin production in early 2023 at Tyler Perry Studios in Atlanta.
Apart from White Boy Rick, Yann Demange is also known for TV series like Dead Set and Top Boy. 2014’s historical war drama ’71 was his first feature film as a director, for which he won the British Independent Film Award. He also directed the pilot episode of the HBO’s horror drama series, Lovecraft Country, starring Jonathan Majors.
Michael Starrbury, on the other hand, is attached to the project as screenwriter, best known for penning Netflix’s crime drama series When They See Us, for which he earned an Emmy nomination.
