Russell Crowe to star in supernatural horror thriller, ‘The Pope’s Exorcist’ for Screen Gems.
Academy Award winning actor Russell Crowe will be next seen in the lead role in Screen Gems’ upcoming supernatural horror thriller, ‘The Pope’s Exorcist’. Julius Avery, best known for 2018’s Overlord will direct the film for Screen Gems. Doug Belgrad will produce the project for 2.0 Entertainment with Michael Patrick Kaczmarek of Jesus & Mary. Evan Spiliotopoulos wrote the screenplay based on original draft of Chester Hastings and R. Dean McCreary. Worldwide Katz’ Jeff Katz and Loyla Productions President Eddie Siebert are overseeing the project with Scott Strauss, Michael Bitar and Giselle Johnson for Screen Gems.
‘The Pope’s Exorcist’ Plot
‘The Pope’s Exorcist’ will follow Father Gabriele Amorth ( Russell Crowe ), a legendary Italian priest who performed over 100,000 exorcisms for the Vatican.
Screen Gems’ The Pope’s Exorcist will be inspired by the life of Father Amorth. During his lifetime, Father Amorth pulling out devil from people around the world. Father Gabriele Amorth died in 2016. Screen Gems acquired the rights to the film, as well as the bestselling memoirs An Exorcist Tells His Story and An Exorcist: More Stories, by Father Gabriele Amorth.
Director Julius Avery also has Universal’s Van Helsing Reboot, which was confirmed in late 2020, in hand. Though work on Van Helsing’s reboot is currently on hold. From Aquaman, James Wan has joined Van Helsing‘s reboot as a producer.
Russell Crowe will next in Marvel’s Thor: Love and Thunder as God Zeus alongside Chris Hemsworth, Natalie Portman, Christian Bale and Tessa Thompson. Thor: Love and Thunder is schedule to release in theatres on July 8, 2022. Then, he will next seen in Sony & Marvel’ ‘Kraven the Hunter’ To Play Villain as well as in Poker Face. Liam Hemsworth and RZA also stars in the film. Also, Poker Face has been directed by Russell Crowe. Then, Russell Crowe will next seen in The Greatest Beer Run Ever for Apple TV+.
