Sony’s ‘Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse’ Got Delayed

Sony Pictures postpones release of upcoming project Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse.

Sequel to 2018’s ‘Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse’, a big hit for Sony, has been postponed to 2023. Apparently, the sequel to Academy Award winner Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse was supposed to release on October 7, 2022, this year. But now this animated feature will not be available until the middle of 2023.

Now, Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse will release on June 2, 2023. Also confirmed is the release date of Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse II which will now open in theaters on March 29, 2024.

Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse is directed by Joaquim Dos Santos, Kemp Powers and Justin K. Thompson. Shameik Moore, Oscar Isaac and Hailee Steinfeld return for the sequel from the original film to voice their respective characters. Jake Johnson and Issa Rae are joined for the first time in franchise. Phil Lord, Christopher Miller and David Callaham have written the screenplay. Amy Pascal and Avi Arad are producing the film along with Phil Lord, Christopher Miller and Christina Steinberg.

Though, Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse was blockbuster at box office. The film grossed $ 375 million from a budget of $90 million. Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse was directed by  Peter Ramsey, Bob Persichetti, and Rodney Rothman. Apart from winning Best animated feature film, Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse also won BAFTA Award for Best Animated Film and Golden Globe Award for Best Animated Feature Film category. Peter Ramsey, director of first part will serve as executive producer with Aditya Sood.

Sony will now release live-action Lyle, Lyle, Crocodile instead of ‘Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse’. Based on the book series by Bernard Waber and directed by Josh Gordon and Will Speck, ‘Lyle, Lyle, Crocodile‘ will now release on October 7, 2022 instead of November 18, 2022.

Along with this, Sony Pictures has also confirmed the release of its Spider-Man Universe spinoff Madame Web. Madame Web, starring Dakota Johnson, will open in theaters on July 7, 2023. Apart from Dakota Johnson, Madame Web also star Sydney Sweeney. S.J. Clarkson is directing the film.

Sony has also given an update regarding the release of Denzel Washington‘s The Equalizer 3. The Equalizer 3, directed by Antoine Fuqua, will open in theaters on September 1, 2023.

Sony’s Korean War feature Devotion, starring Jonathan Majors and Glen Powell, is set to rollout on October 14, 2022 with limited runs, then expanding on October 21, and go worldwide on Oct. 28, 2022. Devotion is being directed by J.D. Dillard, who is best known for 2019′ survival horror feature Sweetheart.
