Clearly, Chris Hemsworth is the third biggest name, who leaving the MCU after Chris Evans and Robert Downey Jr.. Chris Hemsworth recently confirmed that ‘Thor: Love and Thunder’ will be his last film in the MCU. Obviously, Natalie Portman is returning to MCU after Thor: Dark World Film will be seen as Mighty Thor.
While director Taika Waititi holds the opposite opinion, he believes that no one can replace Chris Hemsworth in the MCU.
Director Taika Waititi shares his thoughts on Chris Hemsworth’s Thor as Natalie Portman replacing him. In this context, Thor: Love and Thunder director Taika Waititi said in an interview with Total Films that, “It’s really fun, the idea that Thor has got Stormbreaker, that big ax, and now his hammer’s back, and it’s in the hand of someone else. It’s no longer his hammer. It’s the idea that someone is taking his place. I think a lot of fans are gonna potentially assume, Oh, ok, this is the passing on of the torch and I don’t think that’s the case ( regarding Natalie Portman replacing Chris Hemsworth as Thor)”.
According to Taika Waititi, it has happened in the MCU before, such as Chris Evans’ Steve Rogers’ Falcon in Avengers Endgame, who would later pick up the Captain America shield in The Falcon and The Winter Soldier, and later, Kate Bishop in Marvel & Disney+ Series ‘Hawkeye’.
It is clear that currently Taika Waititi’s stature is very special in the MCU.It was Taika Waititi who summed up the failures of Thor: The Dark World and presented the God of Thunder to audiences in a whole new way in Ragnarok. Made on a budget of $180 million, Thor: Ragnarok earned a whopping $854 million at the box office. The trailer for Marvel’s Thor: Love and Thunder also shows that Taika Waititi is taking the franchise in the right direction.
Apart from Chris Hemsworth and Natalie Portman, Thor: Love and Thunder is also featuring stars Tessa Thompson as Valkyrie, Christian Bale as Gorr the God Butcher, Russell Crowe as Zeus, Taika Waititi as Korg, Melissa McCarthy as fake Hela, Chris Pratt as Star-lord, Vin Diesel as Groot, Bradley Cooper as Rocket, and Jaimie Alexander.
