The Suicide Squad from Warner Bros.’s and DC’s Universe is released this week in theaters as well as on HBO Max, directed by Guardians of the Galaxy director James Gunn.
Despite receiving a good response from the critics, the film is struggling at the box office. ‘The Suicide Squad’ got an opening of just $26.2 million at the domestic box office. On the other hand, the film has earned $45.2 million in the international market. If the domestic and international box office figures are added then it comes to $71.4 million, which is very disappointing. While the budget of the film is 185 million. Clearly, these box office figures of just three days from James Gunn’s The Suicide Squad will not go down well with Warner Bros and DC fans. With the kind of performance James Gunn The Suicide Squad is doing right now, it doesn’t look like it will be able to come close to David Ayer’s Suicide Squad’s ( 2016 ) $746 million mark.
After all, why is the film struggling so much despite having such a huge star cast like Margot Robbie, Idris Elba , John Cena, Joel Kinnaman. While The Suicide Squad is full of action, emotion and thrill.
There can be many reasons for the film not doing well at the box office. Let’s talk about them.
Covid-19
The reason for the film not doing well at the box office could also be the Covid-19 pandemic. Obviously, new variants of Covid-19 are coming every day, due to which there is fear among the public. The theaters were on the verge of closure due to the pandemic crisis. Due to which studios had to turn to streaming platforms to release their films. But now, governments of almost all countries is making the vaccine available to the public. Apparently Marvel’s ‘Black Widow’ was also released on the lines of Warner Bros’ The Suicide Squad on their respective streaming platform, Disney Plus ,HBO Max. But Black Widow’s box office figures were far better than James Gunn’s The Suicide Squad. Vin Diesel‘s ‘F9: The Fast Saga’ box office figures defy the pretext of Covid-19, because it was just a theatrical release for Universal.
