HBO has surprised everyone by abruptly canceling one of its more ambitious projects.

Dystopian sci-fi western series Westworld on HBO is one of the biggest projects of the year to be canceled.

In the meantime, the TV series has been canceled while the fans were expecting the renewal of the new season. Westworld will no longer return to HBO for Season 5.

The biggest reason for Westworld's cancellation on HBO is believed to be the decline in the TV show's viewership.

If we talk about the statistics, then season 4 of Westworld has declined by a record 75% as compared to the third season.

Also, Westworld became too expensive for HBO after the first two seasons, leaving the network with no profits as expected.

Obviously, Most recently David Zaslav made it clear on Warner Bros' Q3 earnings call that his first priority will be to create content that can be easily understood by worldwide audiences.

It is also worth noting that HBO's dystopian sci-fi series Westworld has not been accepted by a large audience, this may also be a big reason for the cancellation of the TV show.

This is probably why Ridley Scott's sci-fi series Raised by Wolves was also canceled after two seasons.

In this context, David Zaslav, CEO of Warner Bros. Discovery, wants to continue adding content from franchises such as Harry Potter and Lord of the Rings into the future.

Obviously, Harry Potter, LOTR and Game of Thrones are the franchises that are liked all over the world along with the USA.

Also, Westworld is J.J. Abrams' second biggest project to be canceled on HBO as a producer.

Apparently, Batman in the Past: Caped Crusader, produced by J.J. Abrams and Matt Reeves, was canceled on HBO.

Westworld Season 4 Finale airs on HBO on August 14, 2022
