20th Century Fox President Steve Asbell clears that James Cameron most anticipate sci-fi adventure feature Avatar 2 will not be delayed again.
Fans are finally heaving a sigh of relief, with the release of James Cameron’s most highly anticipated sci-fi adventure Avatar 2 with no changes. 20th Century Fox President Steve Asbell has said that James Cameron’s sci-fi flick will not be postponed again. Obviously, the original film released in 2009 set those dimensions of worldwide success, which was impossible for any other film.
The film earned a worldwide record-breaking $2.84 billion at the box office from a budget of $230 million. However, the wait has been long for the sequel which we will get to see after 13 years. Had there not been a covid-19 crisis for the last two years, Avatar 2 would have been released in 2021 itself. Obviously, due to Covid-19, the production of the film was interrupted many times. It is also worth noting that the sequel was confirmed 7 years after the release of the original film in 2016. Later on, it was decided to make Avatar film 3 more parts. In this context, Avatar 3, 4 and 5 will release by 2028.
In this context, Steve Asbell said in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter regarding the release of Avatar 2, “Yes. It will. For real. It’s going to blow people away. You’re not ready for what Jim ( James Cameron ) is doing.”
Now when a sequel to an original project comes out after 12 or 13 years, its performance is bound to make a difference. Because from today the test of the audience of 12 years was on some side and today’s is on some other side. The biggest challenge for Avatar 2 will be how to recreate that 2009 atmosphere. If it fails, then the question of making the remaining sequels may come into question. Because during these last 12 years, the audience has seen very good whether it is Warner Bros’ ‘Aquaman’ or Marvel’s ‘Shang-Chi And The Legend of The Ten Rings’ . That’s why the biggest challenge for James Cameron will be what new he will serve to the audience in Avatar 2.
But according to 20th Century Fox President Steve Asbell, James Cameron is able to overcome all these obstacles. Hence, the box office performance of Avatar 2 will decide the fate of the rest of the sequels.
Avatar 2 is directed by James Cameron and has written the screenplay along with Josh Friedman. Cameron has also written the story of the film and produced the film in collaboration with Jon Landau. Sam Worthington and Zoe Saldana are returning for sequel to reprise their roles as Jake and Neytiri. Kate Winslet and Vin Diesel join the Avatar franchise for the first time.
