David Harbour as Santa Claus takes on mercenaries in the first official trailer for Universal’s holiday action comedy, Violent Night.
David Harbour is gearing up for another blast after in Netflix’s biggest hit series Stranger Things. But this time he will collide not with a monster from another world, but with some mercenaries on Christmas Eve, who have taken a rich family hostage in their house with the intention of robbing them. At least that’s what the trailer for Universal’s upcoming action comedy Violent Night says.
Yes, Universal has dropped the first trailer for Violent Night directed by Tommy Wirkola that teases us with comedy and brutal action scenes. Norwegian director, Tommy Wirkola has previously directed the 2013 fantasy action flick Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters starring Jeremy Runner and Gemma Arterton for Paramount. Pat Casey and Josh Miller wrote the screenplay for the film. Kelly McCormick, David Leitch and Guy Daniella has produced the film with their 87North Productions. While, Marc S. Fisher has served as executive producer.
Apart from David Harbour, Violent Night is also featuring stars John Leguizamo, Cam Gigandet, Alex Hassell, Edi Patterson, Alexis Louder and Beverly D’Angelo.
Plot
Universal’s Violent Night will follow a team of mercenaries, when they breaks into a wealthy family compound on Christmas Eve, taking everyone hostage inside. However, they aren’t prepared for a surprise combatant: Santa Claus ( David Harbour ) is on the grounds, and he’s about to show why this Nick is no saint.
It would not be wrong to say that the action films that have come out of 87North Productions in recent years are amazing and Universal’s Violent Night seems to be taking it a step further in the action category. Apparently founded by David Leitch and Chad Stahelski, 87’North Productions has produced films such as John Wick, Nobody, Atomic Blonde, Deadpool 2, Hobbs & Shaw and Brad Pitt‘s recent release Bullet Train over the years.
In this context, 87’North production will continue in the years to come, in addition to David Harbour’s Violent Night, Ghost Of Tsushima, Lionsgate’s ‘Highlander’ Reboot with Henry Cavill, Mel Gibson’s The Continental, and the recently announced The Fall Guy Form Universal starring Emily Blunt and Chris Evans, is also producing.
